Traffic: A 23-year old woman clocked going 89 mph south on I-95 around 10:30 a.m. July 30 was pulled over. Though she didn’t have a license on her, the woman gave the deputy who stopped her a photo of her license. It came back as being suspended 13 times for failing to appear in court.

The woman was arrested and her vehicle was searched. An open container of alcohol and several small bags of “what looks like marijuana” were found in the vehicle. She was taken to jail and her vehicle was searched.

Meth: A 42-year-old man riding a bicycle without lights around 2 a.m. July 31 on Highway 280 near 204 was stopped by a deputy who suspected the man had meth on him. It turned out the man did and he was arrested for possession. No license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle: A deputy on Highway 280 pulled over for an ambulance with its lights and siren activated around 9:20 p.m. July 27 but noticed another vehicle in front of the ambulance keep going until it got to a gas station.

The deputy pulled the driver over and learned the man had a Venezuelan license and didn’t speak English. He also didn’t have a Georgia license and was arrested without incident and taken to jail, where he was cited and given a court date.

Traffic: A deputy on patrol around 1 a.m. July 27 on I-16 came up behind a car clocked at 54 mph. When it moved into the left lane the deputy checked its registration and learned there was no insurance. The deputy followed the vehicle in the left lane for about a mile and its speed varied between 45 mph and 54 mph. A traffic stop followed. The woman, who told deputies she thought she could go as slow as 40 mph, reportedly had 22.4 grams of pot on her. And though she could go as slow as 40 mph on the interstate, the deputy told her, she couldn’t do so in the left passing lane. The woman was cited for slow-poke law, no insurance, possession of marijuana, etc. She was given a court date.

Animal complaint: A Black Creek woman reported July 30 two “husky type dogs,” were aggressive toward people and were coming on her property and “plucking feathers from the ducks.” She said she had small kids and worried about their safety. A report was made the deputy suggested the woman call animal control.

Damage to property: A South Carolina man reported he was driving his 2019 Nissan Titan pickup north on I-95 near the Bryan and Liberty Line around 9 p.m. when “an unknown object came out from under an unknown vehicle slammed into the front of his vehicle.”

The man said his air conditioning then went out, so he pulled off at the Belfast Keller off ramp and called 911. A check showed the man’s grille was missing and the AC condenser was damaged, but the radiator didn’t leak and the car didn’t overheat, so it was safe to drive. It just didn’t have air conditioning. The man was given a case number.

DUI-alcohol: A 32-year-old South Carolina man was arrested for DUI after he ran a pickup into a culvert in Ellabell, then walked away from the crash, then came back. The man said a deer ran in front of him, but he also admitted to drinking five beers and “a few shots of Jaegermeister.”

DUI-drugs, more: A 51-year-old man was charged with DUI after he was spotted around 9:50 a.m. driving all over Eldora Road before he pulled into the Parker’s parking lot at the Highway 80 and Highway 280 intersection and going to sleep. The man, who failed a field sobriety test, said he took medication the night before. The man also reportedly fell asleep at the traffic signal at the intersection.

Matter of record: A deputy was sent to a Pembroke address regarding a woman who wanted her sister evicted.

Suspended license: A 38-year-old man driving a Mercury was pulled over around 12:32 p.m. on Highway 17 for expired registration. He also had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted in both Chatham and Effingham counties. He was arrested and taken to jail. His daughter was picked up by a girlfriend. The car was towed.

Matter of record: A deer struck by a vehicle around 10:30 p.m.. on Belfast Keller was put down by deputies to end its suffering.

Aid to other agency: Deputies helped Richmond Hill Police Department find and arrest a man who walked away from a wreck he was involved in on Port Royal Road. A deputy found the man walking out of the woods onto Harris Trail Road and turned him over to RHPD.

DUI-alcohol: A McIntosh County woman was arrested and charged with DUI after she was stopped in Midway shortly after midnight for driving very slowly down Highway 17. The report said a deputy “stated he was going about 35 mph and the vehicle would not even catch up to him.” After communicating with a Liberty County Sheriff ’s Office deputy the BCSO deputy pulled the driver over in the Captain Joe’s parking lot. She was turned over to an LCSO deputy.

Theft: A Richmond Hill man reported someone stole his dirt bike.

July 29

Verbal dispute: Deputies were sent to an Ellabell address regarding an unwanted person on private property. The man reportedly had mental issues and was taken by EMS to a hospital for evaluation.

Suspicious incident: Deputies looking for four-wheelers and a loud pickup in Ellabell pulled over a man “that had been driving up and down the road all day with noisy exhaust.” As the man was pulled over he threw a baggie out the window with something in it. The deputy also noticed the 36-year-old man was bleeding, and the man first told the deputy “someone hit him, but he didn’t say who. He then told me he fell off a ladder.”

The man didn’t want help from EMS. He admitted to throwing the baggie out of the window and said it had pot in it. The man’s vehicle also smelled of marijuana and a search revealed a rolled “blunt,” which “was destroyed on scene by (the man).”

Suspended license: A man was arrested for driving on a suspended license after he pulled a vehicle into the BCSO station in South Bryan. A drug dog alerted on the vehicle three times, the report said, but no drugs were found.

DUI-alcohol: A 28-year-old man with a suspended license was arrested for DUI after he was involved on a single- vehicle accident in Ellabell. The man said he hydroplaned. He blew a .106 on a preliminary breath test. The legal limit is .08.

Suspended license: A woman was arrested in Blitchton for driving on a suspended license. Her husband’s license also was suspended, and the vehicle’s registration as suspended as well.

July 30

DUI-drugs: A 29-yearold South Carolina man stopped around 10 a.m. on I-95 for going 88 mph smelled of marijuana and was clearly impaired, a report said, and admitted to feeling pretty good “as in high.” He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI, speeding and expired registration.

July 31

Disorderly conduct; A woman said she accidentally cut off another driver on I-16 and the driver “flipped her the middle finger and made a gun sign with her hand,” and then began to follow the woman. She gave deputies the woman’s tag number.

A 36-year man was arrested on a warrant after he was pulled over on Highway 204 around 11:30 a.m. for driving a vehicle with a canceled registration. The man also didn’t have a license but “was only going to the store.”

July 26:

Drugs: A Richmond Hill teen was taken to the hospital after he reportedly had a bad reaction to acid and began “having destructive behavior,” which led to a call for help from deputies around 2:30 a.m.

The kid had to be restrained and strapped into a stretcher for transport.

Suspended license: A 64-year-old driver pulled over for failing to come to a complete stop sign at Highway 280 and Black Creek Church road was found to have a suspended license. He was arrested.

Damage to property: A man reported something hit his windshield and broke it while he was driving on Black Creek Church Road.

Lost property: A Richmond Hill woman said her mother ordered her a new cellphone and it was delivered by FedEx, but the box was slightly open and there was no phone inside. The woman said the phone was valued at $1,000.

Verbal dispute: Deputies were sent to a Richmond Hill address regarding a disagreement between neighbors over golf cart driving.

Domestic dispute: Deputies were sent to a Richmond Hill address regarding a daughter-inlaw who was “intoxicated, arguing with everyone in the residence, and yelling at her children.”

July 24

Suspended license: A 51-year-old woman stopped on Highway 204 with an improper tag was arrested after it was found she had a suspended license.
